Matani Shakya: "Kumari"

Matani Shakya, a 3-year old girl was newly appointed "kumari " or living goddess in Nepal.

She passed the goddess test conducted by a panel of judges and got the throne. According to Nepal's law, "Having passed all the tests, the child will stay in almost complete isolation at the temple, and will be allowed to return to her family only at the onset of menstruation when a new goddess will be named to replace her." (Yahoo! News)

Here's what her father Pratap Man Shakya got to say: "I feel a bit sad, but since my child has become a living goddess I feel proud." (Yahoo! News)

I also feel a bit sad like his father about this little girl. Ang bata pa kaya niya sobra, she will not be able enjoy a child's life anymore due to being a goddess. Tapos ma-a-isolated pa siya sa temple hanggang ma-reach niya puberty niya.(sigh...)

Well, whatever it is, we should still respect their law as they also respect ours and every nation. =)
